Synopsis Bronco was bred by Brigitte Oed (now Kling) in Nürnberg, Germany. This pick of litter male was chosen at the age of 6 weeks because the rest of the litter were going to be cropped at 7 weeks. At that time, Britain's quarantine laws were still in force so, rather than subject a very young puppy to six months kenneling Bronco lived at home with Brigitte until he was almost 6 months old. This strategy paid off because he was well socialised before he went into quarantine and when he was released at just under 1 year of age his character had not been affected. He soon attracted the attention of breeders in the UK but his stud work was strictly limited. In seven years he sired 26 litters. Nevertheless, his breeding record is impressive. He sired six champions, two with 2 C.Cs, three with 1CC, R.C.Cs. and four with Junior Warrants. Bronco truly was a 'dog in a million'. His devotion to us was immense and the pleasure he gave was immeasurable. No finer tribute to Bronco can be found than Eric Robert's assessment of him, copied in full below. At the time it was written, Eric was National Co-ordinator for the British Schutzhund Association. "My first involvement with Bronco was in the summer of 1994 when he attended Callanway Dog Training School for a character assessment and training programme. My first impression was of a dog with tremendous presence and extreme confidence. As the training progressed, Bronco exceeded my first impression, proving to be a dog with correct, well-balanced drives for training. His submissive instinct is at the perfect level for training, being respectful of leadership without weakness. His protective tendencies are pronounced yet controllable. My overview of Bronco is of a very strong and courageous dog with a confident, sound character. He possesses the ideal temperament for training. Having been involved in the training of a great number of Dobermanns over the years and witnessing changes in the breed, meeting Bronco was a pleasure and having since met progeny from him I'm sure he is proving a great asset to the breed."
